Canadian Visa For German Residents eTA – Requirements and Application

Kanada eTA provides convenience for those who want to visit Canada either as a tourist or for a business transaction via airplane. It is an electronic document linked with the traveler’s passport and is required for US citizens, visa-exempt nationals, and non-visa foreign nationals.

eTA Requirements for German Citizens

Germans can apply for an eTA online, which is valid only when they arrive by airplane. German travelers must also have an e-passport that is machine readable. An eTA is valid for business transactions, transit, medical visits, or as a tourist, for 90 days. Also, German applicants must be a full German citizen aged 18 years old and above to be able to apply for an eTA unless supported by a parent/ guardian.

An application for a different visa is needed for those German citizens who wish to visit Canada for more than 90 days or for purposes other than what was stated in the eTA program.

For travelers who have a passport or travel document with a different status (i.e., refugee), they will be required for a full Canada visitor visa application, and not an eTA.

Application Process

German residents must complete their eTA application three days before their departure date to Canada. To avoid any delays and the risk of the eTA application to be rejected, it is best to review and make sure that you have your complete and valid documents first.

The eTA application for German citizens usually takes about 5 minutes to be processed and approved. The result of the application is then sent via email in PDF format. Upon arrival in the airport, there is no need to present a print or hard copy of any documents as the eTA can be accessed electronically.

Conclusion

The validity of eTA is up to 5 years, from the date it is issued. It can be used for multiple entries within a 90-day duration, and the application process is easy and convenient. Remember that you have to be a full German citizen aged 18 years old and above. An eTA does not guarantee immediate entry to Canada, and if denied, you can still apply for a visitor visa.
